What does your swim team budget say about your team?

Think about your team’s budget. It will tell you a lot about the priorities the team has selected. The budget also sends a message about the planning or lack of planning for the future. Important considerations include how money is raised, how it is allocated and saving for program enrichment.

First of all, the budget must be consistent with your team’s vision, mission, philosophy and goals. What is important to your team? How are you spending your money? For example, if your team mission statement mentions “supporting athletes to the highest levels”, there might be a line item showing that the club pays at least part of the expenses for athletes who compete at the USA Swimming Sectional or National meets.
